Wednesday May 21st, 2025, 10:28 AM

We are delighted to present a new edition of our series dedicated to our members, their projects, and their personalized journeys at La Halte. This week, we’re highlighting Alice Mardelet Santamaria, a lawyer leading a law firm focused primarily on Canadian immigration law. Based in Montreal, she works with a committed, professional, and multicultural team.

1. Can you briefly introduce yourself and explain your field of work, mission, and/or services?

"I’m Me Alice Mardelet-Santamaria, a lawyer and member of both the Quebec and Paris Bars. I am passionate about supporting individuals, families, and businesses with their immigration projects to Canada. As a member of the France-Canada Chamber of Commerce, I regularly take part in various conferences, expos, and forums both in France and Canada to promote mobility to Quebec. I’m also a member of AQAADI (Quebec Association of Immigration Lawyers). Before becoming a lawyer, I already worked in immigration law and completed several internships with the UN. I bring my knowledge, professionalism, and determination to serve my clients and help make each project a success."

2. Why did you choose a coworking space over a more traditional office?

Coworking spaces bring together diverse professionals, foster networking, and offer greater flexibility than traditional office settings. When I launched my firm in 2020, I wanted a more flexible practice that emphasized networking and shared workspace use. A coworking environment allows for shared resources, which has both economic and ecological benefits, all while respecting principles of confidentiality and professional secrecy.

3. Tell us a bit about your background and what motivated you to start your own practice.

From the end of my studies, immigration law felt like a natural fit due to my personal background and long-standing interest in the subject. I was quickly driven to represent individuals in their immigration journeys, using my expertise to help ensure the success of their projects.

Before going solo, I was in charge of creating and developing an immigration department within a private law firm in Montreal. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to build a human-scale law firm, one that offers a more individual and personalized approach to each client.

4. Can you share some details about current projects you're working on?

We are constantly growing and evolving. We recently hired a legal technician and are planning to expand our team further in the coming months.

5. What are your aspirations and plans for the coming years?

To continue working in this ever-evolving and fascinating field. We strive to support and represent people in their immigration journeys while maintaining a personalized and attentive approach to ensure the success of each case. The frequent changes and developments in immigration law make it a rich, diverse, and dynamic field that requires us to continually deepen and update our knowledge.
